The ‘Big’
Banks and Insurance Companies
Came across this from Micah and King David in the wee hours of what looks to be a delightful day weatherwise. The current temperature outside at just before five in the AM is fifty-one. Normal lows for this date are fifty-one. The high to be is seventy-eight degrees while the normal high is seventy-eight degrees. The sun is starting to show…
Wow! A ‘normal’ weather day. We’ve had a lot of these ‘normal’ weather days here in the Great Pacific Northwest. Though, as we look around the country and planet we see nothing normal weatherwise. It’s been a long time since weather’s been that way.
This showed up this morning when doing my daily readings. The first is Micah, an Old Testament prophet. The second is King David, Psalm Ten. When I read it, my immediate reaction was, “Oh my! This describes the current situation with the big banks, (I wonder if there are any smaller banks left) and the insurance companies who’ve taken over decisions on what will keep us alive, often rejecting doctor’s decisions on what is best for the patient. Some of us die early with preventable conditions as a result. In other words…
Thery are killing us off!
They prey on those who don’t have the physical or mental capability or both to maintain management and oversight of what is going on.
Then the mysterious rise in both premiums and co-pays this year. In February of 2026 we paid two hundred and seventy dollars for supplemental insurance (AARP United Healthcare) for the two of us. In April or May year 2026 it jumped with no notice to six hundred-six dollars. Income solely based on social security. Means we don’t eat much the last week of the month and the beginning of the next. Often, we skip meds because we can’t afford to pick them up. We are in a big club of people with like or worse situations.
And man!! An example of another great tragedy or fall out. Coffee went from the least expensive being $6.69 in January to a minimum of $9.99. The coffee we used to buy when from $6.99 to $19.99.
Inflation at 4.2%? What planet are these people on?!
Micah was a contemporary of the prophet Isaiah. The book’s superscription (1:1) places his prophetic activity during the reigns of three kings of Judah: Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. It identifies him as a resident of Moresheth, a village in the Judean foothills. The solitary reference to Micah outside the book (Jer 26:17–18) places him in the reign of Hezekiah and reports that he went from his small town to proclaim the word of the Lord in the capital and asserts that his announcements of judgment against Jerusalem moved the king and the people to repentance. Unlike Isaiah, who was a native of the holy city, Micah was an outsider from the countryside and must have been a controversial figure. He would have been unpopular with the leaders whom he condemned (3:1–4) and the wealthy whom he criticized (2:1–5). He was quick to separate himself from priests and other prophets, whom he considered to be corrupt (3:5–8).
Micah says in Chapter Two…
Why, O LORD, do you stand aloof?
Why hide in times of distress?
Proudly the wicked harass the afflicted,
who are caught in the devices the wicked have contrived.
And….
You do see, for you behold misery and sorrow,
taking them in your hands.
On you the unfortunate man depends;
Of the fatherless You are the helper.
Then King David (Psalm 10) kicked in with…
Why, O LORD, do you stand aloof?
Why hide in times of distress?
Proudly the wicked harass the afflicted,
who are caught in the devices the wicked have contrived.
And…
You do see, for you behold misery and sorrow,
taking them in your hands.
On you the unfortunate man depends;
of the fatherless you are the helper.
When I read this, my immediate reaction was, “Oh my! This describes the current situation with the big banks, (I wonder if there are any smaller banks still around) and the insurance companies who’ve taken over decisions on what will keep us alive, often rejecting doctor’s decisions on what is best for the payment.

We are in a big club of tens of millions with other folk. So, we must pray for them too, in front of our own needs.
Despite these things, us two amongst many, we are happy! Joy and Gratitude abound in this place we call our planet bound home. The grace of Him showers us in His love, like gently falling lake bred snowflakes on a windless day, little individual unique pieces of glorious mystical lace magic always falling…
On us.
It is because we both turned everything in our lives to Him. We do this because we know He is always with us. Therefor we must be like Him.
As He said, “Be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect…”
It’s easier than you think once you go one hundred percent ‘all in’.

PS. Some people, especially Christians, don’t like the word magic. God’s magic is mystically magical more than anything else.
